Although I'm a Remote Employee, I really do love a "home" A place where I have everything I need. A place where I am comfortable. When you're not 'home' you're away. I don't care how sexy a place you are in, when you have to be on a Zoom Meeting in 5 minutes and your wifi isn't working because of last night's storm or the owner of the Hostel forgot to mention that every day the password changes or a howling monkey grabbed your lap top and the other monkeys started to play keep away before they ran into the jungle --- with your laptop, being a Remote Employee during those moments isn't sexy and you long for home.
Now you know I had to run out and buy a new computer today. You may not know this, but in Ecuador's hinterlands, like Ballenita or Manglaralto or Montanita or Puerto Lopez, there isn't a mall or corner computer store or Best Buy. Losing a computer truly means you're lost.
Thank goodness for the Cyber Cafe! Home of the local hacker crowd and dedicated to the theft of your identity, bank accounts and any other data your in a big enough hurry to enter because "they wouldn't hack an American, would they?"
I'm going to be in Quito on the 14th, so I'm very excited to pick up the new Apple Laptop.
I'm sure it will look just like my normal Apple Laptop, just not quickly disappearing in the jungle in the arms of one very happy marsupial
If you lose your computer, that's the least of your problems.
